Attendance

A good regular attendance is very important for your child. It is just as important at Junior Infant level as it is in 2nd Class. Your child is learning something new everyday. If he/she is not in school they may miss out on what the others have learned.

Under the current legislation, any child absent for 20 days or more will be reported to the NEWB. The Education Officer will then contact the family. At the start of every school year, you will recieve a list of all the days which the school will be closed. The majority of our children live in the surrounding area so it should be possible to get to school regardless of the weather.

Good Attenders

A reward system is in place for all good attenders, as follows:

• At the end of every term, any child who has not missed a day for that term, gets a prize.
• At the end of every term a child who has missed only 1 or 2 days also gets a prize.
• At the end of the year, any child who has not missed a day for that year gets a certificate recognising Full Attendance .
• At the end of the year, a child who has missed only 1-3 days gets a certificate recognising Excellent Attendance.

When a child misses a lot of school, the child falls behind. If he/she is not at school he/she misses out.

Leaving School Early

If you have to collect your child early for any reason you must recieve a note from the office first.

Sickness

We realise that children get sick, so do please let us know (either drop over to the school or phone) to explain any absence. The school telephone number is (01) 8476643. This practice allows us to ensure the safety of your child at all times. Every absence must be explained by either a visit or a note. Our school Attendance Monitor follows up every absence so please do keep us informed.
